Parasol

Parasol.JPG

As the title suggests this sculpture is inspired by those Edwardian ladies strolling through parks and gardens with incredibly long-handled parasols with their delicate lace fringes, twirling them as they chat to friends and lovers.

After perfecting the parasol to look beautiful and delicate, able to move in the lightest of airs, I hit upon the form of a surreal delicate tree to support them.

Further research and I find that they were originally Chinese or Japanese the jury is still debating which, but it seems they were originally green paper and slowly developed an important part of their culture later becoming red.

For this reason I gave the stem a black finish with a mist of red over it.
